Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges – Quartet no. 4 in C minor op. 1, I. Allegro Moderato

The string quartets of Joseph Bologne are bright and lively, and composed with a lot of creativity. Joseph Bologne (December 25, 1745 – June 12, 1799) was a virtuoso violinist, conductor and composer. Next to that, he was a champion fencer, a Parisian socialite, excelled in swimming and riding and fought in the French Revolution. Bologne’s eventful life and his mixed-race background have inspired the imagination of writers and movie-makers, but his compositions are still due to be heard regularly.

The continuing lockdown of 2020/2021 has created opportunities to spend time together as a string quartet and explore new repertoire. This has led to the recording and release of two pieces that are very close to us, string quartets by Bologne and Bosmans, a Dutch composer from Amsterdam. The complete works can be heard on Spotify, Apple Music or other streaming platforms
